An Inconvenient Truth
Published by James June 18th, 2006 in Life, Theft
Today I woke up to my third broken car window in the last ten months. Having your car window broken just feels like crap. You have to pay to get it fixed, you have to sit on glass, and you just feel like you have been violated seeing that your glove box is now strewn throughout your car. Worst part of all, for the second time out of three, there was nothing to steal.
I live on the intersection of Pine and Divisadero in San Francisco. Streets that are very busy and border the Pacific Heights and Western Addition districts. Pacific Heights is relatively rich and Western Addition is relatively poor. On almost any morning you don’t have to walk more than 2 blocks to see a car that has a broken window.
Here is another one from today about 200 feet away from mine.

So what do we do to stop it? I think this guy has a good solution….

Yes, those are frogs on the dashboard. You break this window and you are definitely walking away with warts. ![]()
Maybe this is the only answer.

What you end up with is the really rich that can afford it and the really poor that have nowhere to go. With no middle class, the problem will only get worse.
I hate thinking about “getting tough” on crime or even moving out of San Francisco, but seriously, maybe the whole broken windows theory is right?
Help…….
