Today it was reported in the SF Chronicle that Avie Tevanian has left Apple.
From the story:
Tevanian, who came to Apple in 1997 from his previous post working for Steve Jobs at NeXT, played a key role in developing Mac OS X, the company’s widely adored operating system.
I always heard about Avie from my uncles who went to school with him in Westbrook, Maine. They were definitely the geeks at that time. Or maybe not geeks, but the guys that had the most talent to change the world.
Going to middle school in Westbrook, Maine myself, I am convinced that Avie is the one of the most accomplished people to come out of there. His work has definitely influenced my life in how I work and intereact with a computer.
So cheers to Avie, cheers to Westbrook, and cheers to the great Mac OS X.
