PETER Drucker, the management guru’s guru who invented or predicted most of the management theories and trends that have reshaped corporations, has died at 95.

Although I wouldn’t say I would agree with most his political alliances, I really enjoyed reading Drucker. I think he was right about almost everything he professed(at least what I have read) and I think that even more of his best work should be to come.

Last week I was at the SF library and I had “Post Capitalist Society” by Drucker on the desk and a man asked what that was all about. I tried to explain to him Drucker’s belief in the knowledge worker and some of his other management theories. I went on to talk about the certain “efficencies” of outsourcing manufaturing jobs, and other jobs that don’t require an ample amount of human capital. The man went on to ask if this was some sort of “communism” thing, and I laughed thinking what Drucker would think of someone calling him a communist. (This man went on to rant about the need to keep the lower class “busy” for fear that they will revolt ala the French Revolution. Go to the SF Library on a rainy day, it’s always a fun experience. ;))

An interesting point about Drucker is that he did fall out of favor with many of his supporters late in his life when he said that no worker, manager, etc should make more than 20 times what the lowest paid worker at a company makes.

IMO, the tech. revolution will do more for Drucker’s theories then he ever thought they would.
